Missing Female Teacher At Atebubu-Amantin Found Dead In Volta Lake

The 26-year-old female teacher who went missing two days ago in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality has been found dead.

The lifeless body of Benedicta Gyane Afofie, a teacher at Amantin Roman Catholic Junior High School was retrieved from the Volta Lake in Yeji in the Pru East District.

Details surroundings her death still remain sketchy but Ghanaweb sources reveal that her lifeless body was retrieved by divers this afternoon after she reportedly drowned in the lake.

Police sources in Yeji reveal that they have launched investigations into the matter whilst plans are underway to have her buried right away due to the decomposed nature of the body.

Described by neighbours, close friends and colleagues as friendly and easy-going, the death of the former University of Development Studies (UDS) student has thrown the Atebubu township into shock.

Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased is said to be in distraught following the untimely and mysterious demise of her daughter.

The 26-years-old Benedicta Gyane Afofie disappeared mysteriously from her home on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

According to a family source, the family went to bed together on the night of Wednesday, April, 1 but she was discovered missing around 4:00 am by her mother.

With her phones and other her personal belongings left behind, there were initial hopes that she might be hanging around in the vicinity but that hope faded by the day.

The source continued that the mother was compelled to lodge an official complaint with the Atebubu Police after she failed to return hours later.

Series of announcements were also caused to be made on local radio stations but they all yielded no results.

“She was discovered missing around 4:00 am on Thursday by her mother which was very unusual so she combed the entire surroundings for her but to no avail. There were initial hopes that she might have taken a walk around or something else but that hope later became a mirage. The strange thing is that she left her phone behind making it difficult to track her. We have done everything humanly possible but we are not making any headway”, the source revealed.
