Mrs. Christiana Nkrumah Advocates For Wheel Chair Basketball Court For PWDs
The founder of Akosua Ago Disability Rights Advocacy Foundation, Mrs Christiana Nkrumah has called for a wheelchair basketball court for the person’s living with disability [PWDs] in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western north region of Ghana.
According to her, it will serve as a recreational centre for the PWDs and perhaps avenue for other purposes.
She appealed to the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alfred Obeng Boateng and incoming MPs to consider involving the PWDs in their activities and campaigns.
Mrs Christiana Nkrumah, also a person with disability, expressed her displeasure over how politicians have neglected the welfare of the PWDs but goes to them during election seasons for campaign, adding the development has affected the person’s living with disability.
“I know the MP is going to construct Astro turf at Bekwai, Bibiani and Chirano. I am appealing to him to construct wheelchair basketball court for the PWDs in wheelchairs. We have our friends and families too who are visually impaired. They can play their games on the court and will serve as a recreational purpose. It’s very painful how we unable to get a single disable from the Municipality to represent the PWDs in the international games. We need the support of the various stakeholders to ensure the welfare of the PWDs,” she noted.
“I want to take this opportunity to call on the politicians to involve the PWDs in their activities, they should get us involve so that we can also utilize the knowledge and education we have acquired to help, at times we feel bad leaving us behind but only come to us during campaign time,” she reiterated.
