NADMO to pull down radio stations masts, giant billboards in Kumasi

As part of measures at ensuring safety in the metropolis, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is set to remove giant masts of radio stations and some giant billboards sited along some of the busiest highways within the Kumasi metropolis, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

“Some masts of radio stations are so long and possess danger to human lives”, Ashanti Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire disclosed a day after a heavy rainstorm that accompanied hours of thunder and lightning destroyed properties estimated at millions of cedis.

Many have been displaced after the downpour as roofs of some homes were ripped off; others were forced to evacuate as flood waters invaded their rooms Thursday night at Afful Nkwanta, Stadium and Asokwa all in the Kumasi metropolis.

Many houses, in poorly planned and heavily populated areas were also submerged by flood waters at Aboabo, Oforikrom, Sawaba and other areas in the city, according to our reporters on the ground.

Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere has therefore laid blame on the doorstep of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) accusing responsible staff of doing nothing to save the people lives and properties at this crucial moment.

“I blame KMA [Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly] for all these”, Regional NADMO Director, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere spoke during an interview MyNewsGh.com monitored on Abusua FM.
