Name of Ghana’s new flag carrier revealed

Ghana’s first national airline was named Ghana Airways and branded in the national colours red, gold and green with the black star rightly placed in the middle.

After the collapse of Ghana Airways, its successor established on a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) basis, was christened Ghana International Airlines.

With government keen on setting up a new home-based carrier with Ethiopian Airlines (ET) as the strategic partner, possible names for the new entity have been revealed by AviationGhana sources.

The leading names up for consideration are: Akwaaba, Akwaaba Air, Ghana Airlines and Akwaaba Airlines. The various contracts and agreements for the start of the airline are being finalized and it is expected to start operations this year
