NDC won’t accept results of ‘flawed’ elections – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not accept the results of flawed elections.

Speaking at the 28th-anniversary commemoration of the NDC in Accra, Mr. Mahama, who is the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming polls cautioned the electoral commission against acts that could disenfranchise Ghanaians in the polls.

“Let no one think that the NDC will accept the outcome of a flawed election…Let nobody attempt to disenfranchise any of our citizens on the basis of ethnicity,” Mahama said.

The NDC is in court with the electoral commission over the EC’s insistence on compiling a new register for the December polls. The party says a new register will disenfranchise majority of voters if the EC insists on passport and Ghana card as main proof of nationality.

Meanwhile, Parliament on Tuesday voted to approve the controversial C.I 126 which gives legal backing to the Electoral Commission to compile a new voter’s register for the December polls.

106 members of the Majority side of the House voted in support of the C.I while 92 opposition MPs opposed it.

Despite the seeming clearance from the legislative chamber, the EC will have to jump the major hurdle yet with regards to the new register as the Supreme Court is to rule on the legality or otherwise of their action.
