NDC’s Forensic Audit Request Denied: EC Cites Resolved Discrepancies

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has rejected the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) request for a forensic audit of the voter register.

In their response to the NDC’s petition, the EC assured that they’ve resolved most discrepancies in the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) and will repeat the process in 2024, just like they did in 2020.

“The Commission takes this opportunity to assure the NDC and the General Public that it has largely resolved all the discrepancies identified in the PVR,” the EC stated.

They also extended an invitation to the NDC to discuss the matter further, saying, “We invite your team to the discussion table as we believe it will afford us the opportunity to demonstrate to you that the discrepancies detected in the PVR have been resolved.”

The EC justified their decision by emphasizing that existing legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR haven’t been fully utilized, making a forensic audit unnecessary.

“As a Commission, we are of the view that the existing legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the call for a Forensic Audit,” they explained.

Instead, the EC urged the NDC and the public to trust them to fulfill their mandate. “We entreat the NDC and the General Public to trust us to deliver our mandate,” they concluded.
