Nicki Minaj has indicated that her public endorsement of President Donald Trump has not damaged her career, describing a recent surge in streaming numbers as proof that “winning is the new canceled.”
The Trinidadian-born rapper, 43, was responding to reports that she had seen a significant boost on Spotify, gaining 10.1 million daily streams and topping charts for female rappers in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Nigeria.
While her tweet did not explicitly reference Mr Trump, it was widely interpreted as a response to criticism she has faced since voicing her political support.
Minaj has faced some of the most sustained backlash of her career following her endorsement. However, she has shown no indication of altering her stance.
In a separate post on Friday, she urged followers to contact their representatives about the Save America Act, a bill introduced by Republican lawmakers. She suggested that politicians who oppose the measure underestimate public anger.
Her recent political activity is not the only source of controversy. Minaj has also faced scrutiny over remarks about Jay-Z and Roc Nation, with speculation that she referenced Tony Buzbee—the attorney representing a sexual assault accuser in a case against the rapper.
Meanwhile, ongoing tensions in the hip-hop world have seen Megan Thee Stallion and BIA trade barbs using diss tracks associated with Minaj and Cardi B.
