NPP trains agents on the new Voters registration exercise

The Ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is training its party executives and agents on the controversial new voter’s registration exercise, the Electoral Commission of Ghana intends to undertake.

The training is to equip the capacity of party executives and agents to be meticulous during the exercise.

The Eastern Regional Director of Communication for the NPP, David Prah
revealed this Monday, January 13, 2020, on Kingdom Fm, a Koforidua based radio station.

“The Electoral Commission has the mandate. As a party, what we do know is that the EC says it is going to compile a New Voters register. We are ready that is NPP in the Eastern Region. As I’m speaking to you now, we are training our Party Executives-all the constituencies Executives across the 33 constituencies. We are also training our Electoral area coordinators and Polling station agents,” David Prah told the Host of the Program, Kwaku Aboagye Apenteng.

He added that “if you are a serious political party, you have to go in line with what the EC says but if you go out there making noise to oppose the EC decision, meanwhile you don’t have that mandate”

David Prah, dared the largest opposition party kicking against the compilation of a new voters register, to boycott the exercise when it commences.

“Let me use your medium, we are challenging the NDC and their leader John Mahama, they should not allow their people to come and register when the registration exercise begins. As for us, we are calling on all in the Eastern Region to come out in their numbers to register when the exercise starts”.

The Electoral Commission’s intention to compile a new Voters register barely 11 months to the general election with Ghc440 million budget to replace the less than Seven-year-old Voters Register, has been met with stiff resistance by some major opposition Political parties led by the National Democratic Congress(NDC) who have commenced staging series of demonstrations across the country.

But EC argues that the current register though credible is overstretched hence the need to compile a new register to enhance its functionality. Critics have questioned the timing for the exercise but the EC is adamant.
