NPP’s Attempt To Disenfranchise Settlers From North Won’t Work Here – Fanteakwa PC

The Parliamentary Candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in Fanteakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region has stated that the party will use all legitimate means to resist calculate attempts by the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, to disenfranchise farmers from Northern Sector who have settled in the Constituency.

According to the NDC PC, Haruna Appau Wiredu, the NPP has branded the settlers, aliens, on Akyem land hence intimidating their efforts to register in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise.

He told mybrytfmonline.com that, over 50 settler farmers -some are Gurushies, Kusasis, Mamprusis and Dagombas have been challenged by the NPP that they are aliens who should return to their hometowns to register.


He has however commended the Fanteakwa North District Registration Review Committee for clearing the majority of the people whose registration were dubiously challenged by the NPP for not being able to speak “Akan language “.

He also appealed that processes are fast-tracked to ensure others left are cleared to restore their legitimacy as qualified voters.

Haruna Appau Wiredu is, therefore, encouraging all qualified applicants residing in the Constituency to come out to register in the exercise which has entered the last phase.
