NRSC receives Cabinet approval to upgrade into an Authority

Cabinet has approved the elevation of the National Road Safety Commission to an Authority.

This is to enable the outfit ensure compliance of road safety regulations and to punish offenders.

This comes as at a time when the first quarter statistics show close to a hundred persons have died to road accidents.

The Transport minister Kweku Ofori Asiamah revealed this at a stakeholders workshop organized at Elmina in the Central region.

The minister also indicated that the NRSC soon to be NRSA has also seen its budgetary allocation of 6.5 million Cedis for 2019 approved.

“The President about three months ago, through cabinet, has approved that we should turn the commission into an authority with powers to ensure compliance. The commission has also received additional budgetary support for education campaign,” he announced.
