Ofori commits future to Martizburg

Black Stars short stopper, Richard Ofori, has committed his future to Maritzburg after speculations linked him to a move away from the Pietermaritzburg-based side.

Olando Pirates were said to have expressed interest in the 25-year goalkeeper last season following his exploits in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when Maritzburg were struggling in the competition.

Having survived relegation after winning their play-off, Martizburg, are not ready to cash in on their first choice goalkeeper after selling two of their key men, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe to Orlando Pirates.

The Ghanaian also made it clear that he was not ready to terminate his relationship with Maritzburg and wants to remain with the club.

“Yeah man I told you last time we spoke, I’m a Maritzburg United player, so you can see I’m here and not going anywhere,” he said.

Speaking on the AFCON the ex-Wa All Stars goalkeeper described it as a good experience having played against good players but added that playing for the national team came with pressure to deliver.

“It [AFCON] was a good experience, I’ve played against good players. Whenever you represent your national team there’s always pressure.”

Although Ofori has most of his international teammates playing in Europe, he said he was not in a hurry to join the bandwagon to Europe but want to concentrate on his current club and help them perform well in the Absa Premiership.

“No I’m playing in the PSL and my concentration must be here to help this team. I need to always think about where I’m currently playing and not worry about Europe.”
