Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for allegedly devastating Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at the party’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba today, he noted that pensioners have had to protest at the Ministry of Finance due to government policies and pointed out that the introduction of several new taxes has further exacerbated the difficulties faced by Ghanaians.
“The economy collapsed for the past seven years. The government has also introduced a plethora of taxes that are visiting excruciating hardships on our living conditions”
“The economy has collapsed to the extent that we have to introduce new fanciful terms such as hair cuts and domestic….for the first time in our history, pensioners who served our country and her entitled to a fat retirement have had to picket at the Ministry of Finance to demand their hard-earned pension which they have invested..” he said.
For his part, The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey claimed that the NPP inherited a robust economy from the NDC but has since undermined it. He highlighted that the previous NDC administration left behind an economy supported by two oil fields and a thriving manufacturing sector, among other assets.
“When you say one village one dam and you know you do not have the capacity that is deception. Our policies are anchored on principles, the principle of respect for the people. We left behind a manufacturing sector that was wrong, two oil fields, a strong cocoa sector.”
