In a shocking turn of events that took place on June 22, 2024, the highly anticipated finale of a GHanaian popular reality TVshow, TV3 PMXtra season 2 show has been hit with controversy and accusations of rigging.
One such unforgettable season ender was intended to result in a couple being crowned the clear, deserving couple instead left fans and contestants alike disappointed and questioning the integrity of the show.
This is the second edition of the show, and the first time international fans jumped on it. We had fans from South Africa, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia who came on board this time around, and Drill and Rosey, whom it was believed were robbed off their wins had all these fans.
So, the drama started from the voting extension period beyond the advertised deadline of 6 PM. This unexpected move immediately raised eyebrows among viewers and contestants, many of whom had diligently casted their votes within the original timeframe.
The crux of the issue revolves around the voting timeline. The show’s organizers had clearly communicated that voting would close at 6pm. However, it was later discovered that the voting period was inexplicably extended until 8pm. During this extension, an additional 212 votes were cast. This unexpected extension and the subsequent votes have led many to question the integrity of the final results.
Adding fuel to the fire, it was revealed that a significant number of votes—specifically 212 people —were allegedly cast after the purportedly extended deadline. This revelation has sparked widespread outrage and accusations of manipulation, with supporters Drill and Rosey expressing disbelief and anger over what they perceived as a blatant disregard for fairness. An evidence shows that as at exactly 5: 57pm Drill and Rosey was leading the voting poll. But it’s unfortunate that TV PMXtra organisers happened.
In the auditorium, where the announcement of housemates were supposed to be made, everybody was chanting Drisey, Drisey, Drisey but Martin and Tessy was rather declared the winners of the show.
In a bid to contain the escalating backlash, the show’s producers including MG digital service has issued a public report, claiming only 212 people did the voting after 6pm and it didn’t affect the outcome of the result. But they will be willing to refund any associated costs to voters…
However, TV3 PMXtra organisers and MG Digital statement released in an attempts of damage control have been met with mixed reactions. Fans are not buying into the gimmics, and also it has been pointed out that they have caused more damage to the show’s credibility and it has already been done.
The housemates are yet to be asked on for their take. On Saturday, 22nd where the winners were announced, Rosey and Drill was ased if they like the position, and they replied that the first and second position are just a numbers.
Amid calls for transparency and accountability, the future of the reality show hangs in the balance.
