Pantang Psychiatric Hospital accused of endangering lives of visitors

The Pantang Hospital has been accused of endangering the lives of visitors and patients who frequent the hospital for visits and treatment.

A visitor who took his brother for a periodic check-up has accused the hospital of leaving users to unforeseen dangers.

This, according to Marshall Bobobee, is because visitors are not allowed to use the main entrance when they are leaving the hospital.

He says they are asked to use a different route as exit, but the route is bushy and poses a danger to persons who use the place.

Upon getting close to this exit, the Marshall realized it wasn’t safe and returned to ask the security to allow his brother and himself use the main gate which wasn’t crowded but they insisted he used the directed route.

Not convinced with the hospital’s reason for the new exit, Mr Bobobee, speaking to GhanaWeb said, “truth is, we are not in normal times but must we put people’s life in peril when we can do better in enhancing the safety of clients? In any case, what is holding a big hospital such as Pantang Psychiatric Hospital to spend just a little resource to clear the alternative path for its clients?”

Subsequent reactions by Head of Administration at the hospital, Collins Kesse, in a phone interview with Ghanaweb revealed that the decision to separate the entrance of the hospital from the exit is part of measures adopted by the hospital to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

He said the hospital took this decision to help enforce the social distancing directive.

“If you use the same place to enter and exit and assuming cases are many that social distancing directive would not be implemented so to avoid people using their own discretion, we have just created an exit point…”

He added that the exit is used by both staff and visitors and no one has ever lodged a complaint about the place being weedy but assured he will have the environmental officer of the hospital inspect the place and ensure the path is cleared to keep users safe.

“If the place was weedy I’m sure the staff would have made a complaint to us. There is an orderly there responsible for weeding that place… I just called my environmental officer so I’ll personally go there and ensure that it is weeded if it’s bushy.”

Mr Kesse further appealed to visitors of the hospital to bear with them for now as this directive is for the good of everyone.
