Paramount Chief of Bongo debunked, blast others for alleging of extortion from Fulanis in his area

Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyaarem, blast others for alleging extorition from fulanis in his area.

According to him it’s petty to level such an allegation against him.

Residents, opinion leaders of the Bongo-Soe community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have asked Fulani settlers to leave their community within a month.

According to them, the Fulanis are illegally occupying their lands and are not paying any homage to them, therefore they must leave within the given time or risk seeing their community been turned into a mourning ground.

At a press conference held on 6th April 2023, in the community, the Bongo-Soe Community Association for Development (BONSCAD),Mr. Vitus Azeem a member and former Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) read the speech indicated that the decision came as a result of the recent attack on one of their members by three Fulanis and the subsequent arrest of 11 of their community youth.

Speaking to Rite fm, the Paramount chief of Bongo Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyaarem said they are one people and needs unity to enhance development.

Responding to the allegation of extorting money from the Fulanis, he said it will be against his integrity to take a penny from anyone.

” Why will someone say every Fulani man in Bongo gives me a bag of maize and money (GHc 500) every two weeks, I could have been the richest chiefs but how many of the Fulanis even farm” he quized.

” I am the Paramount chief of Bongo and I must accept every tribe not only Fulanis, in other areas others take cow from then but I don’t even take a fowl so why will my people level say such a thing, all that I need is peaceful coexistence between all the tribes within my traditional area” he said.

He advised those behind the spread of such misinformation to desist from it.

Tabital Pulaaku International, Mr Musah Barry the National Secretary on his part questioned the capacity of Mr Vitus Azeem to give Fulani settlers a month to leave community.

He added that Fulanis are most peaceful people to leave with therefore the need to coexist with everyone to forster development.
