Former President John Mahama on Monday, November 16, 2020 signed the book of condolence opened for the late President Jerry John Rawlings.
There were allegations that the NDC Presidential Candidate was being prevented by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government from signing the book of condolence at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The General Secretary of the party, Mr Asiedu Netiah had claimed that the leadership of the party and its flagbearer, former President John Mahama, as well as some members of the late Rawlings’ family were told that the government had taken the book away and that it intended to return it on Monday.
But a statement issued by State Protocol dismissed the claim saying per arrangements, the two former heads of state, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama were scheduled to sign the book between 10:15am and 10.45am on Monday.
This arrangement, according to State Protocol was “due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Mr. Mahama shared photos of the moment on social media after signing on Monday.
