Police on manhunt for Guinean who tested positive for Coronavirus but escaped

The police in the Northern Region are on a nationwide manhunt for a Guinean national who is said to have escaped a quarantine facility after testing positive for Coronavirus.

According to the Northern Regional Minister, the patient escaped a quarantine facility in Tamale on Monday, March 30 after she ascended a wall leaving behind her belongings.

The minster, Salifu Saeed worries that the situation is rather very disturbing because the patient had tested positive with the novel coronavirus.

“Since yesterday, up till this morning, I have not slept, with my security people. I directed that they should use all their networks to be able to track the persona down and get her,” Salifu Saeed told reporters.

It’s been reported that there were two police and two soldiers who were guarding the guest house where some infected persons were being quarantined and in isolation. Despite the seriousness of the circumstances, the Minister has advised citizens to “remain calm”.

“Our people are safe… we are working very hard to ensure that the people don’t get too panicked. Nobody should be afraid because the security personnel are on top of the issues,” Salifu Saeed said.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Sunday confirmed that 10 Guineans were arrested under the direction of the Regional Security Committee of the Northern Region for illegally trying to enter Ghana from Burkina Faso and Togo.

According to the GHS, they were put under mandatory quarantine in Tamale and were all later confirmed to have tested positive for Coronavirus after tests were carried out.

“They travelled through Burkina Faso and Togo to Ghana and were picked up following an intelligence report,” the GHS said on their website.

Ghana’s case count as at Sunday, March 29, according to the GHS, stood at 152 with the death toll at 5.
