Police shoot two Fulani robbers dead

A fierce gun battle has led to the death of two armed robbers and caused injury to one policeman in Kumasi, the police have said.

The police had got wind of a looming robbery expedition at Santasi Anyinam on Tuesday evening, so they dispatched men to the area to foil it.

But to the surprise of the police, before they could get to the scene, they were greeted with gunshots by six robbers, who were in a BMW saloon car.

The policemen, who were also well armed, were left with no option than to return fire and, as a result, two of the robbers were shot and killed.

One of the policemen that foiled the robbery attack was also hit by a bullet fired by the robbers, and he is reported to be in a stable condition.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Adjem, said the six robbers are believed to be of Fulani extraction and described them as ‘deadly’.

According to him, four of the robbers, whom he suspects sustained severe gunshot wounds during the gun battle, are on the run and police are on their heels.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Wednesday, the police chieftain urged the public, especially medical and herbal facilities, to assist to help apprehend them.

According to him, the six robbers are dangerous as they are noted for snatching cars and robbing people, especially gold dealers at their mining sites in the region.

Police checks revealed these same Fulani robbers masterminded the Manso Dadiese robbery, where three persons, including the driver of Amansie South DCE, were killed.

DCOP Adjem said one SMG rifle, loaded with 7 rounds ammunition and one SIG SAUER SP2022 pistol loaded with 11 rounds ammunition were seized from the robbers.

Also, he disclosed that the BMW vehicle, registered GR 7615-12, which the robbers used for Tuesday’s foiled operation, had been impounded and parked at the police headquarters.

DCOP Adjem appealed passionately to the public to always volunteer vital information to the police so hoodlums could be arrested before they strike again.
