Policeman who slapped woman faces a charge of assault

The Ghana Police Service says it has identified the Policeman who was seen in a viral video slapping a middle-aged woman at a registration centre.

According to the Police, the Police has identification number 51688.

The Police said the incident happened at the Asofa MA JHS Registration Center in the Greater Accra Region.

He is currently being investigated for Professional misconduct and assault against one Madam Ofosuawaa.

Background

On Saturday July 11, a video went viral on social media.

In the video, a policeman was seen slapping a woman. This brought about outrage as most Ghanaians condemned the act saying it was needless and unprofessional regardless of the level of infuriation.

Eye Witness said the Policeman denied the opportunity to the woman to register her child who to him was under aged.

The women who got infuriated by the decision taken by the Police started raining insults on him and provoked the Police who started an exchange of words.

After sometime, some men at the registration center came in to calm tempers but the provoked Policeman threw his hands and slapped the woman in the process.
