A former deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Yammin has slammed Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for comparing the cost of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle interchange under ex-President John Mahama to that of four other interchanges being constructed by President Akufo-Addo, MyNewsGh.com reports.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM with Yaw Nimako on the station’s ‘Pure Morning Drive’ program on Wednesday, August 19, Hon. Joseph Yammin remarked that the Vice President and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are bereft of ideas and achievements hence sending the Vice President to lead their ‘propaganda campaign’ but they cannot take Ghanaians for granted like it happened in 2016.

Hon. Joseph Yammin explained that, the Vice President’s comment on ‘the cost of one interchange under the John Dramani Mahama administration is the cost of four interchanges under the Akufo-Addo administration’ is not only deceitful but embarrassing especially coming from the occupant of the country’s Vice Presiden position.

He urged him to approach Hon. Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh (a former Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juaben) for lectures on quantity surveying as any basic District Chief Executive (DCE) will point out to him that before a contract is executed, there are arrangements, modalities and laid down procedures it passes through.

“Go and tell Bawumia to go and learn quantity surveying. He should come to Yamoah Ponkoh for tutorials… I’m not sure he read his speech as, if he did, he wouldn’t come out to embarrass himself like that. But it is not surprising, if you have nothing to show for, you peddle in falsehood and assume the work of DCE’s.

With respect to the Circle interchange he talked about, it was a Brazilian fund that came with its own company and contractor to execute the project. How does Bawumia understand quantity surveying for him to come and disgrace himself like that.”

“Why didn’t he tell us that under the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia led administration, the cost of 6-units classroom block is $350,000 whilst same was executed under Mahama for $120,000. Why didn’t he do that comparison?

He shouldn’t think that he can con Ghanaians again like he did in 2016.” Yammin opined on Pure FM.

Speaking at a ‘Town Hall’ meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said the Akufo-Addo led administration has been prudent with the little resource at its disposal, thereby, doing more infrastructure projects than the previous Mahama’s administration.

He cited Tema, Pokuase and Obetsebi Lamptey interchanges in the Greater Accra Region and Tamale in the Northern Region, all at a total cost of $289 million comparing it with the $260 million Kwame Nkrumah Interchange constructed under ex-President Mahama.
