Polo commends C.K. Akonnor for adopting 1978 AFCON squad

Mohamed Ahmed Polo a member of the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cup-winning squad has said Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor will be able to replicate their style of play if he ensures competition in the squad.

Coach Akonnor has indicated that he would adopt and modify the style of play of the 1978 Black Stars squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time on home soil.

Polo told the GNA Sports that, the decision of CK Akonnor to adopt the style of play of the 1978 squad was an ideal one adding that, the Black Stars coach has demonstrated that he had a vision for the team.

He, however, noted that only players in good form and competitive deserve to play in the team if that dream was to materialize.

“He also needs a group of committed players who are ready to sacrifice for each other to succeed with our style of play.

“He must select players who are ready to die for each other. He must have a team that cares less about who the captain is, who the goalkeeper or the top scorer.

“In our time, there was a lot of competition in the team and that is one of the reasons that made us a formidable side,” he told the GNA Sports.
