Power crisis: Mahmudu Bawumia proposes solar as remedy

In response to the power crisis, New Patriotic Party(NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia has suggests a paradigm shift in the country’s energy generation mix to include solar Power to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs at a recent meeting with them chiefs.

He emphasized the need for renewable energy sources to combat the power crisis and highlighted the potential benefits of solar power in providing a sustainable solution for Ghana’s energy needs. He is confident that exploring the full benefits of solar energy will be the panacea to the country’s energy challenges.

The Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia was addressing the Bono Regional House of Chiefs as part of his nationwide campaign tour to galvanize for votes ahead of the December general elections.

The country has had to endure erratic power supply popularly termed ‘dum-sor’ in the Akan language, leaving devastating impact on especially local businesses.

According to the NPP flagbearer, solar is cheaper and affordable to generate. He said, ”Our electricity bills are high because the generation is expensive. I want Ghana to shift from using liquid fuels to generate power and resort to solar. That is cheaper. With solar power, the country will be relieved.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and their subjects that his government would see to the completion of all commenced projects if elected as president.

He remarked that, “We have constructed the Sunyani Airport and the phase two will follow soon but you first have to vote for me to become the president.”

The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Osiadieyo Agyemang Badu I, commended the current administration for initiating some developmental projects in the region, but also expressed concern about government’s failure to address key social infrastructure projects such as roads and hospitals.

The Dormaahene in welcoming the NPP campaign team told them that, “I will not be truthful to you if I deny the projects NPP did in the Bono Region. But in your second term in office, it appears you are sleeping on the job and roads in the region have deteriorated. If you want to lead this country, then do something about our roads.”

Delay in commencement of Phase 2 of the Sunyani Airport, abandoning of major road projects and the failure to furnish the upgraded Sunyani Regional Hospital were some concerns highlighted by the Dormaahene for redress.
