Profile: All you need to know about Kotoko new coach Seydou Zerbo

Asante Kotoko announced the appointment of Burkinabe Seydou Zerbo as their new head coach on a one-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year.

This is what you need to know about the 59-year-old journeyman.

Zerbo began top level coaching career in the 2013/14 season with Burkina Faso side Rail Club du Kadiogo,

He will lead Asante Kotoko against Kadiogo in the first preliminary round of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League qualifiers in early September 2022.

Zerbo left Kadiogo to join another Burkinabe side Bankuy Sports. A club he coached from 2014 to 2016 before heading to Sonabel and giants ASFA Yennenga, all in Burkina Faso.

The last club side Zerbo coached was Union Sportive des Forces Armées in 2021.

The Burkina Faso Football Association appointed Zerbo as head coach of the nation’s home-based national team in 2020.

He led Burkina to kick Ghana out of the 2020 African Nations Championship qualifiers, pipping then Black Stars B [now Black galaxies] 1-0 on aggregate.

The experienced tactician took Burkina Faso to the CHAN 2020 tournament but finished 3rd in the group stages, winning just a game.

His contract was terminated by the Burkinabe Football Federation prematurely because of their poor performance at the 2020 CHAN tournament.

Zerbo took the Burkinabe FA to court and won the case. His sacking was described as “abusive dismissal”.

He will start preparing for the upcoming season with a series of preseason games against Sudanese clubs, including Al-Hilal Omdurman on Tuesday, August 23.
