Referee Hamid Sessay gets four-match ban for denying Great Olympics ‘clear’ penalty against WAFA

The Ghana Football Association has handed referee Hamid Sessay a four-match ban for ‘a clear and obvious error’ during the Great Olympics-WAFA SC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The punishment was recommended by Referees Committee after Olympics-the home team- lodged two two complaints about the match official on the day.

The first complaint was on a penalty claim after Gladson Awako “was heavily brought down” on 62 minutes inside the penalty box.

And the second complaint relates to a foul on the same player in the 70th minute but were not given a penalty.

A Ghana FA statement read: ”After a critical review, the Committee found that the referee was correct not to give a penalty for the first incident because the incident happened outside the box and there was no contact between the defender and the attacking player.

”However it was found out that the second incident merited a penalty because the defender brought down the Olympics forward in the penalty box in the full view of the referee.

”The referee, therefore, made a clear and obvious error in ignoring it.”
