Respect Freedom of Speech: Let Hon. Adwoa Safo Speak Her Truth — NPP Former 2nd Vice.

The former 2nd vice chairman for NPP China branch, Mr. Antwi Moses popularly known as Nana Moses has condemned the biggest opposition party in Ghana, NPP’s decision to silence party members from prevailing internal issues to the media.

Statement signed by the former vice chairman on 20th March 2025, stated his displeasure about the party’s intention to inflict on Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo’s right to freedom of speech.

Release is as follows..

I write this statement with a heavy heart but a clear conscience. As a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I believe it is time we uphold one of the most sacred principles of democracy—freedom of speech—and allow Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo to publicly express her side of the story.

For far too long, Hon. Adwoa Safo has been the subject of harsh public condemnation, largely orchestrated by voices from within her own party. Her reputation, carefully built over years of dedicated service, has been unfairly dismantled without her ever being granted the opportunity to respond in equal measure.

Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in an interview in 2022, lamented her absence by saying:

“For the past three months, Adwoa has not been engaging me. I have sent her numerous messages, and she has not responded.”

This statement gave the impression that she was unreachable and uncooperative, fueling media backlash and public frustration.

General Secretary Mr. Justin Frimpong Kodua, also commented on her past issues, admitting:

“Yes, issues happened in the past… she came back to apologise to the party and now I can tell you that she is doing her work as Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.”

Even in this admission of reconciliation, the emphasis on her past “issues” overshadowed her efforts at redemption.

Perhaps most hurtfully, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who shares a personal and political history with her, went on national platforms to attack her character. He publicly declared:

“I think she is wrong. She should rather apologize to the party. They should stop begging her. I support calls for her removal if she doesn’t come.”

He further added, in frustration:

“Adwoa Safo is in America. She is not my wife, I only have two kids with her… she is an independent person.”

These statements were widely circulated across radio, television, and online platforms, giving many party members and the general public the justification to label her disloyal, arrogant, and ungrateful—without knowing her side of the story. Some members even questioned her integrity and loyalty to the NPP, forgetting her years of contribution and service.

If the media was freely used to tarnish her image, then she must be equally allowed to use the same platform to share her perspective, speak her truth, and heal from the pain these unwarranted attacks have caused. Justice, fairness, and truth demand that she be heard.

Freedom of speech must not be selective. It should not be a privilege reserved only for those in leadership or those with louder voices. Hon. Adwoa Safo is a human being, a mother, a lawyer, a Member of Parliament, and above all—a loyal party member who deserves to be treated with dignity.

I, therefore, call on the leadership of the NPP to honor her right to speak, and to allow her to use the media to address the very platform through which her name was unjustly ridiculed.

Let us show leadership not just in power but in compassion. Let us not silence our own when they are hurting. Let her speak.

Signed

Antwi Moses (Nana Moses)

Former 2nd Vice Chairman, NPP China Branch.
