Road Engineer welcomes President Mahama’s commitment to road construction in Bono, Ahafo, Bono East regions

Mr. Akwasi Yeboah, a certified road engineer working with the renowned contractor Kofi Job, has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s assurance to prioritize the construction of major roads in the erstwhile Brong Ahafo Region.

President Mahama recently toured the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions as part of his nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour, during which he outlined development plans for the region under his administration.

During his community engagements, traditional leaders urged the former president to make road construction a top priority, citing the poor condition of many roads as a key factor contributing to the high incidence of highway robberies.

In response, President Mahama assured the chiefs that his administration, through the Big Push Project, would oversee the construction of all major roads across the three regions. He also promised timely payments to contractors, pledging that any contractor who completes between 5% and 10% of a project and raises a certificate will be paid within 28 working days.

Reacting to the President’s assurance, Mr. Akwasi Yeboah stated that the promise to pay contractors once they complete between 5% and 10% of a project is a step in the right direction. He believes this will motivate contractors who have previously abandoned sites to return and resume work.

He further explained that since contractors are often required to pre-finance projects, their primary challenge is funding. Therefore, if the government honors its commitment to pay within 28 days of certificate issuance, it will alleviate financial burdens and encourage timely completion of awarded projects

‘Our major challenge as contractors is access to finance,’ said a local contractor. ‘The assurance by the President is very refreshing, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. I believe it will motivate many contractors to return to their sites and resume work.’’ He said.
