Two people, all males have been drown in River Offin at Anwiafutu in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident happened on Monday, January 30, 2023, around 9:20am in the morning.
Nana Kwame, a resident, narrating the incident to Filasconews.com today said, the deceased persons together with their colleagues went to mine illegally inside the government forest in Atwima Mponua, specifically at Anwiafutu.
In the middle of their work, the Forestry guards including some military men stormed the site to get them arrested.
In an attempt to fleeing from the security forces in order to avoid arrest, they ran and jumped into the River Offin near the forest to run away.
Three people jumped into the River but only one was able to swim to safety, leaving the other two inside the River.
They two young men, Kwabena Anane(18) and his friend also known as Pee(20) could not swim and drown in the River.
A rescue team went to the river to find them after the incident but to no avail.
The search continued today, Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
All the two bodies have been retrieved from the river after the elders in the community performed libation.
The bodies have since been conveyed to the morgue for the appropriate preparation.
Police have began investigation into the matter.
