Savannah Regional Minister Cut Sod for Nationwide Construction of waste Treatment and Facility

A Sod has been cut by the regional Minister of Savannah region, Hon Salifu Adam Braimah for the construction to begin in the Savannah regional capital Damango. 

 

 

The exercise was spearheaded by the minister on behalf of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to be completed in four months.

 

 

 

These facilities are being established by Ghana’s Leading Waste Management Giant Zoomlion Ghana Limited and its partners, subsidiary of the Jospong Group and work is expected to begin as soon as the sod is cut

 

 

This laudable initiative by the indigenous company Jospong Group of companies is in-line with govt’s One District One Factory(1D 1F) flagship program as the company is poised to give every region a Treatment Plant for Job Creation to reduce unemployment in the country.

 

 

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer(MCE) West Gonja Municipal Assembly Hon Saeed Muazu in his welcome address showed gratitude to the government led by President Akufo-Addo and the Jospong Group of Companies for embarking on the exercise by establishing the solid waste treatment facility in the region.

 

“Let me thank the president for bringing such project to the people of Damango and Savannah region. I must say that it is not only for the west Gonja municipality but the entire Savannah region. We will ensure the needed attention is provided to the contractors”.

 

 

Speaking on behalf of the Yagbonwura Professor Tumtumba Borisah I (overlord of the Gonja kingdom) Zanzuuwura Sanifunu Lange assured the support from the yagbonwura.

 

” The overlord is grateful to the government and the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong for the establishment of the solid waste treatment plant. This project will enhance our health issues, economically will create employment for the teeming youth in the region”.

 

 

The Yagbonwura, therefore, assured the government, Jospong Group of companies strong cooperation to ensure the project starts and completes on time.

 

 

 

Mr Adam Wahab speaking on behalf of the Minister Of Sanitation And Water Resources furthermore expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura and the residents of Damango.

 

Mr Wahab mentioned that the Ministry of sanitation and water resources and the Roads and highway Ministry have collaborated to clear roads leading to the landfill sites where the facilities will be sited.

 

He therefore on behalf of Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah pledged her unflinching support to the Jospong Group.

 

 

Mrs Florence Larbi, the Chief Operating Officer for the Environmental & Sanitation Group and also serves as the Managing Director Of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, subsidiaries of the Jospong Group addressing the gathering expressed gratuitous to President Akufo-Addo for his visionary leadership.

 

 

Workforce & Benefits

 

The facility will create jobs for the youth in the region with about 250 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs. It will also boost cleanliness,tourism and other potentials in the region.

 

 

It will also improve the social and economic well being of the people in the region. It will also help His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to achieve his purpose of making Ghana the cleanest city in Africa.

 

The facility is also a 200 ton integrated, recycling and compost facility equipped with 21st-century technologies in sanitation management which aim to provide a sustainable solution to recover and recycle over 60 per cent of the organic fraction of the waste into compost to boost the agricultural sector and also to support the Planting for Food and Jobs agenda. Other recyclable materials like plastics, paper and metals will also be separated and processed for reuse.

 

Mrs Larbi also thanked the President for his unflinching support to the private sector.

 

According to Mrs Larbi, the Savannah region currently generates 115,000 tons of waste annually which most of them goes into landfills making it hazardous to the citizenry. The facility has the potential of curbing this.

 

 

The Savannah Regional Minister Hon Salifu Adam Braimah also on behalf of the President Akufo-Addo assured the Yagbonwura his support to make the Savannah region a developmental hub.

 

He showed his excitement because the project happens to be in line with the government’s initiative.

 

“Let me applaud the Jospong Group for their determination to bring the project to the Savannah region. Filth will be a thing of the past in the region”. He added

 

 

The project is estimated to cost 15 million euros and will be completed within four months. It is expected to serve Bole, West Gonja, East Gonja, Sawla,North & East Gonja, Central Gonja.
