Seven-year-old boy drowns in river

A seven-year-old class two pupil has drowned in a river at Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on March 27, 2020. The deceased went to river Taasu in the company of his younger siblings to wash their clothes at the river bank but got drowned in an attempt to fetch water from the river.

The other children were oblivious of the incident hence could not take any immediate action.

The boy was retrieved dead when elders of the community belatedly rushed to the scene.

Police and Officials of National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, later arrived at the scene to take the body to Kibi Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

Last week, a class six (6) pupil Ayuba Zebelo also drowned in Volta River at Mamakope a fishing community near Atimpoku in the Eastern Region.
