SHS teacher allegedly slaps student for waving at Agona East MP

A teacher at the Agona Namanwura Senior High School in the Central Region has allegedly slapped a student for waving at the Member of Parliament for Agona East, Maame Pokuah Sawyer.

The MP who was on tour of the school to wish the students the best of luck in their end of term examination said she was shocked by the incident and questioned the basis of the teacher’s action.

Mother of the Form 3 General Art student, Evelyn Hanson, is demanding sanctions against the teacher whose name was given as Wahab Adams. She did not understand why a teacher will slap her son without any offence or provocation.

Ms Hanson told our local correspondent that she will inform the boy’s grandfather about the incident for them to decide on the action to take.

The community members who were angered by the incident have wanted the Ghana Education Service and the school authorities to sanction the teacher.

They have threatened to report the teacher to the police.

Meanwhile, the teacher refused to comment on the matter when contacted, but authorities of the school say they will investigate the matter.

The MP has suggested that the teacher’s action was politically motivated.

According to her, she was once stoned “with iced block, water at Asafo”.

Ms Sawyer accused the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, who is also the Agona East New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, of being the brain behind such attacks.

She indicated that no intimidation can stop her from winning 2020 election.
