Soldiers involved in alleged instability plot arrested – Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that some military officers said to have been contacted by conspirators in the alleged attempted plot to destabilize the country have been arrested.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, the Minister said the officers are currently being interrogated as part of the security agencies’ probe into the matter.

“The updated brief I have is that some soldiers including at least one officer have also been picked up. They are in custody and are being interrogated in connection with this enterprise and when that interrogation is done, the details of that [will be out] and if some of them are to be charged, it will be done. The security agencies and the Military High Command informed us that they have it very well contained and that they are in full control,” he told Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show.

Citi News on Saturday reported that some persons including the Managing Director of Citadel Hospital at Alajo in Accra, Dr. Mac-Palm, had been arrested for allegedly operating a weapon manufacturing factory from his hospital premises.

Later on Monday, the Ministry of Information in a detailed press statement said three persons together with some military persons had conspired to take over key statement installations and the reins of government in a very elaborate plan.

The statement said the alleged conspirators had in their possession some weapons and were radicalizing some youth as part of the grand scheme.
