South African nurse shot dead by cop partner at hospital

A female nurse at the Tembisa Hospital in South Africa was shot dead on Wednesday morning by her partner who is a police officer on the premises of the hospital.

According to the Gauteng Department of Health, the 30-year-old police officer called his 30-year-old partner when he pulled up at the parking lot of the Accident and Emergency Department of the Tembisa hospital Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

The officer opened fire on the nurse upon her arrival and turned the gun on himself as well but unfortunately, the nurse died at the scene of the crime while the former is in a critical condition leaving staff and patients at the hospital in shock.

“Just after 08:00 this morning, a 30-year-old police officer entered the hospital driving a state vehicle with blue lights on and parked at the Accident and Emergency Department’s parking lot.

“The man then called his 30-year-old partner who was on duty at the time to come to the parking lot. Upon arrival, the officer opened fire on the Enrolled Nursing Assistant and turned the gun on himself,” part of a statement from the Gauteng Department of Health reads.

The hospital was closed down temporarily to allow the police to do their work.
