Allotey banned six months for assaulting Kotoko fan

A Ghanaian boxer who assaulted a fan during a football match has been banned from the sports for six months by the Ghana Boxing Authority.

Patrick Allotey, a former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa super lightweight champion beat an Asante Kotoko fan, Michael Siaw at the Accra Sports Stadium during a Ghana Premier League match. The supporter had a black eye afterwards.

Allotey’s suspension comes into effect from today, 6 February 2020 and will end in August. This was after a meeting between GBA executives and the boxer at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

The 29-yar-old boxer who lost a world title fight against Mexican Jaime Mungua in September last year is already being investigated by the Ministry’s Police where he has been charged for assault.

He was caught on camera assaulting Mr Siaw during the Super Clash between Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

Meanwhile, the management of the boxer, Cabic Promotions says they will appeal the suspension, describing it as it harsh.
