GFA Elections: Wilfred Osei submits petition to CAS over disqualification

CEO of Tema Youth and GFA Presidential candidate, Wilfred Kwaku Osei, has sent a petition to the Court of Arbitration to get the NC to overturn the decision to disqualify him from the impending GFA Elections.

The NC announced that Osei was unable to meet the stated requirements and thus, was disqualified on grounds of failing make mandatory payments in relation to player transfer and breaches rules of ethics.

Osei’s legal team has put together a 114-page petition to the CAS in which it chronicles the sequence of events from the vetting proceedings to the correspondence between the candidate and the Normalisation Committee over the filing of Osei’s appeal to have him take part in the elections.

The document from Osei’s legal team states that the NC’s decision is wrong on the basis of:

pre-conceptions against Osei;

conflict of interest on the part of one of the vetting committee’e members;

the decision to disqualify Osei not being supported by any laws and regulations of the Ghana FA, CAF, and FIFA.

The document goes on to highlight what reliefs that the legal team wants from the Court of Arbiration for Sports (CAS):

Osei’s legal team wants the CAS to nullify the NC and Vetting Committee’s disqualification of their candidate.

It also wants the CAS to state that the grounds for the disqualification are not justifiable.

Most importantly, the team wants the CAS to “nullify” all elections held by the NC until the issue with Osei’s disqualification is fully dealt with.

The team also wants the CAS to put together new elections to give all candidates the chance a fair chance of contesting.

What happens next?

There is the expectation that the NC will continue its work in putting the elections together unless the Court of Arbitration gives a ruling that forces the process to stop.

The GFA Elections are set for October 25.
