Patrick Allotey facing 5 years imprisonment if found guilty of causing harm

Boxer Patrick Allotey could serve a prison term of up to five years if found guilty of causing harm to Michael Siaw following an altercation that occurred between the two at the Accra Sports stadium last month.

Allotey is facing a charge of causing harm after inflicting injury on Michael Siaw (a football fan) at the Accra Sports Stadium during Hearts of Oak’s match with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to a lawyer who prefers to remain anonymous, the crime is considered ‘serious offense’ and could land the boxer in prison for five years.

He explained that the minimum sentence for such cases is five months while the maximum is five years.

In court yesterday, Allotey pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a GHC100,000 bail.

His lawyer, Patrick Kojo Arthur told ghanaweb.com in an interview that the evidence available to him does not support the state’s charge of causing harm.

He hinted that, he will in the next sitting call for alteration of the charge from causing harm to assault and battery.

“My client was charged for causing harm but the element of causing harm or the situations which will arise for the charge of causing harm is different. We were expecting a different charge. So he pleaded not guilty to the particular charge of causing harm”.

The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, February 25, 2020
