Poll: Jordan Ayew is Crystal Palace’s Player of the Season so far

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew is a firm candidate to win Crystal Palace Player of the Season award per online poll conducted by the club’s fans.

Ayew, 28, has arguably been the Eagles best player in the 2019/20 campaign since signing a permanent deal worth £2.5 million from Swansea City last summer.

There can be no accusations of stat-padding with late goals in comprehensive victories or meaningless consolations in defeat.

Ayew’s eight Premier League goals comprise of five winners and three equalisers. He is more clutch than a handbag dropped on the left-most pedal of a car.

That wonderful tally includes goals at Old Trafford, the Emirates and the Amex, as well as a glorious effort at home to West Ham.

For a player who scored once in the Premier League last season, it is remarkable.

For a striker whose previous best return in England’s top flight was seven goals, it is quite something.

In a poll with almost 400 votes from Crystal Palace fans, the Ghana international is the fans favourite for the Eagles’ best player of the season.

He topped the voting with 35% of the votes whilst goalkeeper Vicente Guaita trailed close behind with 32% of voters picking the goalkeeper.

Amongst other contenders, Gary Cahill received 18% of votes whilst Wilfried Zaha earned just 8% from fans.

Both Ayew and Guaita have been in fine form this season for Roy Hodgson’s side at both ends of the pitch.

Ayew’s eight goals this campaign sees him top of the club’s goal-scoring charts in what has been a highly efficient season for the striker.

Guaita has been excellent in preserving the points; Ayew has played the biggest part by far in earning them.
