A 28-year-old mason, Asare Benjamin, popularly known as Yellow Benson, and a 45-year-old driver, Kwadwo Amponsah, popularly known as Booster, both residents of Asueyi in the Techiman North District, have been arraigned before the Techiman Circuit Court in the Bono East Region for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be narcotics.
The case, presided over by His Honour Osei Assibey, was prosecuted by Chief Inspector Nifaaniteng Banabas.
According to the particulars of offence presented in court, Asare Benjamin was arrested at Asueyi on August 31, 2025. He was found with 11 Tramadol tablets (120 grams), 12 Tramadol tablets (225 grams), 20 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, 25 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 12 sticks of Rothman cigarettes, one stick of Gold Seal cigarette, a pack of matches, and cash of GH₵15.90.
Chief Inspector Nifaaniteng Banabas told the court that Asare Benjamin was arrested by a local taskforce set up by the Asueyi Traditional Council as part of efforts to address the rise in the use of illicit drugs in the community.
Upon his arrest, he allegedly stated that he was selling the drugs on behalf of Kwadwo Amponsah.
Following police investigations, Kwadwo Amponsah was arrested at Asueyi on September 3, 2025. Police reports indicate that two parcels and two half parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 77 wraps of dried leaves, and a pair of scissors suspected to have been used in processing the substances were found at his residence.
Both men have been charged under Sections 37(1) and 38(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), for unlawful possession and prohibited business relating to narcotics.
The court adjourned the case to October 10, 2025, to allow police to continue with investigations.
Present in court were the linguist for the Chief of Asueyi, Nana Kwame Owusu, and the leader of the Asueyi local taskforce, who also doubles as the Mrantehene of the Asueyi Traditional Area, Nana Annor.
