The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Techiman North, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has praised residents of Offuman, a suburb of Techiman North, for their massive turnout during the second edition of the National Sanitation Day in the district as the government administration in Techiman North joined Nananom and the people of Offuman for the exercise
Hon. Adom Johnson, in an interview with the media during the exercise, explained that although the exercise is officially scheduled for the first Saturday of every month, the district assembly decided to hold it on the first Friday instead, so as not to interfere with local customs, since funerals are usually conducted on the first Saturday of the month in the district.
“H.E. John Dramani Mahama has reintroduced the National Sanitation Day, and it is now mandatory for the various MMDCEs to ensure its implementation in our communities.
“In Techiman North, we have formed a District Sanitation Committee to oversee the exercise. The directive from the Presidency was that the exercise should take place on the first Saturday of every month. However, in Techiman, the Traditional Council has instituted a by-law that allows funerals to take place only on the first Saturday of every month. According to the by-laws of the Techiman North District Assembly, anyone attending a funeral is exempted from communal labour. To ensure full participation, we have therefore scheduled the National Sanitation Day for the first Friday of every month.” He stated.

He commended the high turnout in Offuman, noting that he had personally decided to arrive before the scheduled starting time of 6:00 a.m. but was pleasantly surprised to see residents already on the streets at dawn actively participating in the exercise.
Hon. Adom further disclosed that the district had made arrangements to award the cleanest community, as well as the community with the highest participation, at the end of the year.
“I am very pleased with the turnout. Initially, I decided to arrive before the starting time of 6:00 a.m., but to my surprise, when I got there at dawn, I saw residents of Ofuman already on the streets participating in the sanitation exercise. I am truly impressed by this and commend them, while encouraging them to continue.
“What impressed me most was that people from all walks of life and all age groups actively took part, and the Ofuman Traditional Council was also fully present and participating.” He said.

The DCE continued, “We have made arrangements to award the cleanest community, as well as the community with the highest participation, at the end of the year. Judging from the massive turnout in Tuobodom during the first edition and what I am seeing here today in Ofuman, I am tempted to say the competition will be between Ofuman and Tuobodom.”
According to him, although the government administration of Techiman North joined the people of Offuman for the exercise, the cleanup is taking place across all communities in the district. He stressed that this is an indication that the people of Techiman North have embraced the National Sanitation Day and are making a conscious effort to keep their communities clean.
He used the opportunity to thank the mobilization, logistics, publicity, finance, protocol, and other committees that contributed to the success of the exercise.
“This cleanup exercise is taking place across all communities within the district. So far, everything is going as planned. While commuting from Tuobodom to Ofuman, we saw residents along the road actively cleaning their communities, which is a good sign that the people of Techiman North have fully embraced the National Sanitation Day.

”I would like to use this opportunity to thank the mobilization, logistics, publicity, finance, protocol, and all other committees that have made this exercise a success.” Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson told our reporter.
The Paramount Chief of Offuman, Nana Kwaku Gyan Brokour II, described the day as a special occasion for the people of Offuman. He explained that although the community has been organizing communal labor to keep their surroundings clean, the participation of the DCE and his team has renewed their spirit to continue with the exercise.
”Today is a special day for us, although we have organizing communal labor to clean our community but today the entire government administration at Techiman North has joined us in cleaning our community and it is special for us.
“Today’s event is the 2nd of its kind in the Techiman North District, last month we all emerged at Tuobodom for the cleanup excersice and the assembly decided to join us in Offuman for this months exercise. Sanitation is very important in all aspects of life because good hygyne improve health which is very vital for our survival as humans. This exercise is not only going on in Offuman, it is being done across all communities within the Techiman North District.” He said.

Nana Kwaku Gyan Brokour II praised the initiative as laudable and urged stakeholders to give it their full support. He also pledged the commitment of the Offuman Traditional Area to ensuring the sustainability of the National Sanitation Day.
“This National Sanitation Day initiative is a very good initiative by the government, I will plead with our local assemblies to ensure its proper implementation. I will also plead with the various traditional councils in the country to embrase it in its all entirity.”
