Addressing the gathering, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry and Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Hon. She stated that Farmers’ Day serves as a reminder that without the hard work of farmers, Ghana “does not eat, does not grow, and does not industrialise.”
“Farmers’ Day is a reminder that without our farmers, Ghana does not eat, Ghana does not grow, and Ghana does not industrialise.
“To our cherished farmers, AYEKOO! Your dedication remains one of the strongest pillars of Ghana’s development. You ensure food security, support exports, power agro-industry, and create jobs for millions across the country. Even in difficult times, when the world is battling rising food costs, Ghana continues to stand tall because of your resilience and sacrifices.”
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare commended Techiman North farmers for their exceptional role in the national food basket.
According to her, communities including Tuobodom, Offuman, Jama Tinponim, Ayeasu, Mesidan and Akonkoti continue to distinguish themselves in the production of tomatoes, cashew, gari, grains and vegetables.

“As the MP for Techiman North, I am deeply proud of the exceptional contribution this constituency makes to the national food basket. Techiman North is known nationwide for its tomatoes, cashew, gari, grains, vegetables, and more. From Tuobodom to Offuman, from Jama Tinponim to Ayeasu, Mesidan to Akonkoti, our farmers continue to define excellence, innovation, and determination.”
She indicated that the government of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is taking bold steps to reset and strengthen Ghana’s agro-industrial foundation through targeted interventions.
“And to support this determination, the government of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has taken bold, practical steps to reset and strengthen Ghana’s agricultural and agro-industrial foundation.”
Speaking on the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana and Secure the Future”, the Techiman North District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, said the message aligns with government’s renewed focus on food security, youth jobs and import reduction.

He explained that under the government of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, one of the key flagship interventions is the Feed Ghana project, which aims to transform the agricultural sector into a productive, market-driven and resilient engine for economic growth.
He further disclosed that the project seeks to increase food security, create employment opportunities and boost exports by reducing the country’s dependence on imports, with a strong focus on crop and livestock development.
“The theme for the occasion Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana and Secure the Future is in line with government flagship programme that admonished us to eat what we grow and to also ensure food security and job creation.
“It is instructive to note that, under H. E. John Dramani Mahama led government, one of the flagship programmes is the Feed Ghana project to transform agricultural sector into a productive, market-driven and resilient engine for economic growth. It seeks to increase food security, create jobs and boost exports by reducing reliance on imports with a focus on sub-programmes like crop and livestock development.”

He added that the government will also prioritize value addition, processing and distribution to strengthen the link between agriculture and industry. This, he said, will help position agriculture as a profitable and appealing venture, especially for young people.
“The government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda, will modernize agriculture, enhance agribusiness, ensure food security, lower food inflation, boost exports and create sustainable jobs. The Feed Ghana policy, will increase food production and reduce prices through projects like the Grains Development project, focusing on rice, maize and tomato production.
“To strengthen connection between agriculture and industry, government will prioritize value addition, processing and distribution. This will position agriculture as a profitable and appealing venture making it more attractive to young people.”
The Acting Director of Agriculture for Techiman North, Mr. Boateng Foster, encouraged farmers to take advantage of the ongoing registration for the Feed Ghana Project. He outlined the commodities under the programme, including cereals and legumes such as rice, maize, soybeans and sorghum; vegetables such as tomato, pepper and onion; starchy crops including cassava, yam and plantain; livestock such as poultry, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs; and tree crops such as mango, shea, coconut, oil palm and cashew.

“I will use this opportunity to urge farmers to partake in all government flagship programmes such as the Feed Ghana Project. We are currently registering farmers under the project, so all farmers are invited to register.
“The Feed Ghana commodities include: Cereals and legumes: rice, maize, soybeans, and sorghum; Vegetables: tomato, pepper, and onion; Starchy crops: cassava, yam, and plantain; Livestock: poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs; Tree crops: mango, shea, coconut, oil palm, and cashew.”
He continued, “I also entreat farmers to form associations or groups and register under this flagship programme.”
The Techiman North District overall best farmer, Mr. Kabar Azike, on his part urged farmers to treat farming as a business that requires commitment, time and investment.

“I want farmers to understand that farming is a lucrative business; however, it requires time and investment. I therefore urge all farmers not to farm for farming’s sake, but rather to see it as a business and do it well.”
He appealed to government to improve road networks and provide mechanisation services such as tractors to plough farmlands. According to him, improved infrastructure and farmer support would help increase yields and strengthen local food supply.
“My plea to the government is to provide us with good roads and other farming support such as tractors to plough our lands. I believe that with such support, we will be able to increase our yields and provide more food for the country.
