The Youth Employment Authority (YEA) Coordinator for Techiman North, Mr. Agyei Ahimah Samuel, has paid a familiarization visit to two major companies operating within the area.
The visit, which took place earlier this week, is part of ongoing efforts to combat youth unemployment in the district. It was aimed at exploring partnership opportunities and identifying potential avenues for creating sustainable jobs for young people.
Mr. Agyei Ahimah Samuel and his team visited De Don Company Limited, producers of the locally known Star Rice, as well as Green Generation Farms Limited, a leading agribusiness firm specializing in poultry production.
During the visits, both companies expressed their readiness to collaborate with the YEA office to create employment opportunities for the youth. Management of the companies commended the Coordinator’s proactive approach and pledged their support toward government initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment.
Speaking to our reporter at Green Generation Farms Limited, the Production Manager, Mr. Richard Ofori-Panin, explained the importance of public-private partnerships in solving the youth unemployment challenge.
“We had a very fruitful conversation on how Green Generation Farms Limited can contribute to the fight against unemployment in the country. Our doors are always open to any government project that aims to create jobs for the youth.” He stated.
Mr. Ofori-Panin further revealed the Nkoko Nketenkete Program, a government-led poultry initiative, as a promising solution. However, he called on the government to provide adequate support to participating farms and individuals to ensure the program’s success.
“We also discussed the Nkoko Nketenkete program. It is a very laudable initiative, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. I am confident that, when properly implemented, it will greatly benefit the youth.
“At Green Generation Farms, we have the capacity to support the government in making the Nkoko Nketenkete program a success. However, I would like to respectfully appeal to the government to support all poultry farms and individuals participating in the initiative with feed and medication to ensure its success.”
The YEA Coordinator assured both companies of continued engagement and support from his office. He stated that the fight against unemployment can only be won through collective efforts.
“We are committed to building strong partnerships with the private sector, tackling youth unemployment is not the responsibility of one institution alone. It requires collaboration, innovation, and sustained effort from all stakeholders.” He disclosed.
He also stressed on the importance of aligning youth skills with the labor demands of local industries. Mr. Agyei Ahimah Samuel further encouraged the companies to actively participate in government employment initiatives.
“One of our key priorities is to ensure that the youth are trained in areas that meet the real needs of our local economy, by working closely with companies like De Don and Green Generation Farms, we can tailor our programs to match industry demands and create meaningful job opportunities.”
“We’re not just here to observe, we’re here to support, to listen, and to act. Your feedback is crucial in shaping policies that truly work on the ground.”
