The President of the National Council of Wangara Chiefs and Acting President of the Zongo Chiefs Council, Ghana, Sariki Fanyinama III, Masaaba Yussif Coulibaly Fanyinama III, has disclosed that the late Ibrahim Fanyinama I was a visionary leader who spearheaded the foundation upon which modern Kintampo is built.
In an exclusive interview with Ghanaweb.mobi, Sariki Fanyinama III explained that Ibrahim Fanyinama I, who was enskinned in 1874 as the first Sariki of Kintampo, played a pivotal role in initiating nearly all the major development projects that the town boasts of today
He noted that the infrastructure of both the Kintampo College of Health and Well-Being and the M.F.U. were laid under the leadership of the first Sariki.
“Ibrahim Fanyinama I was the first Sariki Fanyinama and was enskinned in 1874. Nearly all the major developmental projects in Kintampo were initiated by him.
“The infrastructure of both the Kintampo College of Health and Well-Being and M.F.U. were spearheaded under his leadership.”
Reigning for an impressive 80 years, Ibrahim Fanyinama I played a key role in positioning Kintampo to benefit from government development interventions. One of his notable achievements, Sariki Fanyinama III recalled, was the construction of the first road in Kintampo in 1949.
He stated that before government intervention, the revered leader mobilized the community through communal labor to begin building a road connecting Kintampo to the northern part of the country.
“He reigned for 80 years, and during his tenure, Kintampo was strategically positioned to benefit from numerous government development initiatives.
“The first road in Kintampo was constructed in 1949, also under his reign. Before the government brought in road construction machinery, Sariki Ibrahim Fanyinama organized communal labor to begin building a road from Kintampo to the northern part of the country.
“At that time, the colonial government, led by Sir Charles Noble Arden-Clarke, was also working on the Damongo road. After an interaction with Ibrahim Fanyinama I, Governor Arden-Clarke agreed to support the construction of the Kintampo–North road.” He stated.
Masaaba Yussif Coulibaly Fanyinama III said the legacy of Ibrahim Fanyinama I is deeply embedded in Kintampo’s transformation story, and called on the youth and local authorities to study and preserve that legacy for future generations.
