The accident happened on Thursday night in Awasi town, 42km (26 miles) away from Kisumu.

The police said 12 passengers in the bus, including a child, died on the spot. The truck driver also died.

Deadly accidents are common on Kenyan roads, which police attribute to reckless driving, flouting of public transport regulations, and unroadworthy vehicles.
