After heavy rains that hit some parts of Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 which resulted in some flooding, two people are reported to be dead.
Kojo Antwi, one of the deceased has been recognized as an errand boy who lives in Adabraka-Odawna, an area very prone to flooding.
Kojo has been electrocuted by one of the electricity poles when he woke up around midnight to inform some neighbours about the heavy rains and therefore they should position their vehicles and other items at safe places, an eyewitness reported.
“Kojo is a good guy, he notifies us anytime the rain is about to fall heavily, so we re-park our vehicles and relocate other moveable items so they’re not taken away by the rain. Between 12 and 12:30am, he knocked most of the doors in the house we live in. All the ladies woke up and subsequently alerted us including a policeman who resides in the house.”
“He later entered his room. All that we heard after he entered the room was a scream, shouting for people’s attention, but lo and behold he had already been electrocuted when we entered the room. It appears an extension cable in his room which houses three people ignited and possibly killed him.”
However the other person hasn’t been identified yet.
Many places in Accra such as Achimota, around the old market, Avenor, Alajo and some other parts of Kaneshie experienced the flood.
There has been a constant flooding incident in the capital and all efforts to remove building along waterways and clearing of drains have been unsuccessful.
