Uniformed policeman arrested for leading a 3-man robbery gang

A uniformed policeman was on Thursday, August 26, 2019 arrested by police at Esaase-Manhyia near Ahwerewa near Nkawie in the Ashanti Region for leading a 3-man robbery gang.

Lance Corporal Evans Ahenkan of Court Unit with service number 46788 with two of his accomplices were said to have been arrested by the youth of the area who nearly lynched them but for the timely intervention of the Nkawie police.

In the account of the police, they received a distress call to the effect that some armed robbers had been arrested at Esaase-Manhyia near Ahwerewa and the youth were about to lynch them.

A team of police personnel rushed to the place and rescued suspects Corporal Evans Ahenkan in uniform and one other whose name was given as Abdalla as he could not talk as a result of severe injuries meted out to him.

According to the youth of the town, the suspects who were three in number came to a mining site, stopped a pickup vehicle on the way from the site and succeeded in robbing the miners of their black sand.

The youth who saw the incident, rushed on the suspects and arrested the two but the third person managed to escape into the bush.

Suspect Abdalla was taken to Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital where he was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile cop Evans Ahenkan has been detained for investigations while one Karim Awudu aged 41-years-old who came to the station and claimed ownership of the mining site but could not produce any valid mining documents, was also arrested and detained for mining without authority.
