Vicious armed robbers busted, stolen car retrieved

The Police have arrested two members of a robbery gang that attacked a family at Suhum in the Eastern region in broad daylight on Friday, August 12, 2022.

The suspects are Emmanuel Ankoma Nana Yaw, 32, and Kyei Baffour, 29, residents of Pobiman.

They were arrested in their hide-out in Accra around Tantra Hills having robbed the US-based Ghanaian businesswoman and her sister who had visited their grandmother at Suhum.

The robbery gang of five(5) including a young woman stole a Toyota highlander hybrid 2020 model with registration number GW 1180-21, iPhone 13 Promax and 12, LG Phone, Itel phone, Suitcase, Gold jewellery and some unspecified amount of dollars belonging to the victims.

They also attempted to rape one of the victims.

The armed robbers are believed to have monitored the victims from Accra Friday morning to their destination in Suhum.

“On Friday, my sister and I decided to visit our grandmother at Suhum before we proceed to Kwahu to attend a funeral. So we set off from Accra at about 10:00 am and arrived in Suhum around 10:45 to 11:00 am. We parked the car in the house and went upstairs but later about 10 to 15 minutes, we heard grandma arguing with some people in the compound. Suddenly we saw four men one holding a Pump action gun matching her upstairs.

“They told grandma to lie face down because he is not their target that her child is the target. So I was looking at them but one shouted at me, slapped and forced me to also lie face down and pointed the gun to my head and said not to raise my head,” One of the victims narrated to Starr News.

She continued “One of the robbers also rushed on my sister and slapped her as well to lie face down. They took my phone and asked for my password and I indicated to them there is no password on the phone. They took me and grandma to the kitchen and left my sister in the living room. Then one of the robbers returned to the kitchen and asked me to sleep…then he started undressing in an attempt to rape me. I begged him then grandma looked at him so he rescinded because of grandma. he Then ordered us to lie face down again. Later they brought my sister to where we were (kitchen) and locked us. When we came out we noticed they have stolen the car. So we went to the police station to make a complaint”.

Mr Yaw Owusu, brother of the complainant, facilitated the arrest of the suspects.

He narrated, “My brother called me that his car has been stolen. So I came to Pokuase to meet my brother so we come to Suhum to sympathize with our traumatized wife but very unfortunately he had already passed to Suhum. So I decided to pick a Commercial vehicle and sat in the front seat. When we got to the Tantra Hills tennis court area, I saw the car so I alighted to verify. I noticed they have changed the car number plate and affixed a different number plate. But a little scratch on the car which I know has existed for some time confirmed my curiosity so I informed my brother. Then I saw the robbers pulled out a TV set which my brother confirmed they also took away.”

He continued that “The robbers drove the car to another place which I followed with a taxi until they parked. So my brother informed National Security and Police who arrived to apprehend the suspects”.

The robbers were handed over to the Suhum Police for further investigation and prosecution whilst efforts are underway to arrest the three other accomplices who are at large.
