Vybz Kartel Freed, Shatta Wale Celebrates His Release with a Joyful Instagram Post

Yesterday, on July 31, 2024, the UK Privy Council announced their verdict, resulting in Vybz Kartel’s release from prison. Shatta Wale, his African counterpart, expressed his happiness on Instagram in celebration of Kartel’s freedom.

When word broke out that Vybz Kartel had been freed from prison, Shatta Wale, who had a song called “Mansa Musa” with Kartel, couldn’t contain his joy. He remembered the song he wrote about Kartel being freed in 2022, and how it has come to pass.

The African Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, shared a post on Instagram immediately after the world boss was released from prison today. He shared a song he released for Vybz Kartel in 2022 concerning his release titled ‘Free Gaza’.

He captioned the post, ‘A prophecy come true, we asked to be freed, and he is free. Thank you God, Thank you spirits’.

After years of campaigning for Vybz Kartel’s release, Shatta Wale feels as though his dream has finally come true now that he is at liberty.

Shatta Wale expressed his gratitude and excitement for Vybz Kartel’s freedom, and perseverance in achieving justice. The dancehall community is celebrating this momentous occasion, with fans eagerly awaiting new music from the legendary artist.

The entertainer walked from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston on Wednesday afternoon after a court ruling earlier in the day that he should not be retried for the alleged 2011 killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

The entertainer, dressed in white with an orange kerchief covering a section of his face, made his way to a waiting limosine amid scores of people attempting to get a glimpse of him and to capture the moment.

Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, along with Andre St John, Kahira Jones and Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, were charged with the murder of Williams in 2011, and convicted in 2014.

However, they had their convictions quashed by the UK Privy Council in March 2024, with the matter being sent back to the Court of Appeal in Jamaica for it to decide whether the men should be retried.
