WAEC To Release Results For Private SHS

The West African Examination Council, WAEC has over the years been indebted by the government with the inception of the free SHS programme since 2017.

When president Akufo Addo was elected as the president of the Republic of Ghana, his major flagship programme was the free SHS. There was a component of WAEC registration fee which was also covered by the government under the free SHS.

Every year, WAEC has to pressure the government before such fees are paid to them, this has rendered the WAEC weak in terms of finances. In fact, it has brought WAEC into their kneels in terms of finances.

This year’s WASSCE wasn’t exception with over 130 million Ghana Cedis been the amount needed for the WASSCE 2024. Only 12% has been released to the council leaving a whooping GHC112 million outstanding as payment for examiners, invigilators, machines, supervisors, stationery etc

This has rendered WAEC hopeless although, the 2024 WASSCE is ready , there are certain machines which has broken down and typical example is the scannable machine which cost around the region of GHC 25 million to bring it into shape.

Several attempts have been made to government to release the outstanding amount of 112 million Ghana Cedis to pay the aforementioned expenses , yet the government has put a deaf ears to the cry of the ordinary WASSCE students and WAEC in general.

The universities are waiting for the results to make admission for students to go to universities in the first week of January, yet WAEC cannot produce the result to meet the demand of these universities. This is going to affect the academic calendar of the universities of drastic measures is not taken to pay the West African Examination Council, WAEC this outstanding debt.

It is as a results of this that Mr. John Kapi, the Public Relations Officer of WAEC has hinted this afternoon that the private SHS who wrote the WASSCE 2024 paid fully their registration fee and therefore, they cannot be affected with this unfair delays

The council has made it a point to releases their results for them by the close of Friday, 21st of December, 2024 and leave the government school results at the mercy of his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, till he releases funds to pay for the results of the public students who attended the free SHS.

For the Private SHS, students population is small so WAEC will use manual approach to mark the objective which can be done in a day.
