Warning Signs Of Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a relatively common eye condition often associated with aging. It not properly managed, it tends to progress to lose of vision. This article addresses its causes and signs of glaucoma.

According to Healthline, glaucoma is caused by a build of pressure within the eye which damages the optic nerve that sends images to the brain. When it is not promptly managed, it can progress to permanent loss of vision.

Other things which can contribute to glaucoma include age, an underlying condition such as diabetes, certain medications, trauma or injury to the eyes, family history of glaucoma, and high blood pressure.

Generally, glaucoma often presents with the following signs & symptoms:

1. Seeing halos around lights

2. Vision loss

3. Redness in the eyes

4. Eye that looks hazy (especially in infants)

5. Upset stomach or vomit

When any of these signs is noticed, or any discomfort in the eyes, it is important to see your doctor to rule out or diagnose glaucoma. Thus, it is important to go go regularly for eye check up especially as one ages.
