WATCH: Ghana Police retrieve the stolen vehicle from Western Togoland rebels

The Landcruiser double cabin pick-up vehicle that was stolen by Western Togoland separatist group in the wake of their attack on some police stations has been retrieved.

MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that the vehicle which was taken from the Sogakope Division by the rebels, was discovered in the outskirts of a community after they abandoned it while fleeing from arrest by combined team of armed police and military personnel.

It has since been taken back to the Sogakope Division but the weapons taken from the armory are yet to be discovered as police continue to hunt for members of the gang that embarked on the operation.

Police sources reveal that the vehicle which used for highway patrols is intact as no part tempered with by the separatists group who had earlier given security agencies in the area a 24-hour ultimatum to surrender or leave their jurisdiction.

The members of the group numbering about 50 amidst chanting of war songs last friday reported to have attacked the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

They broke into the armory stole and 10 AK-47 assault rifles.

 Chief Superintendent, Dennis Fiakpui, the Sogakope Divisional Commander who was informed of happenings within the area rushed to his office only to fall victim of the attacks by the group.

He was pounced on, disarmed together within his driver and both beaten to a pulp.

Not satisfied with what they had subjected them to, they inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on the Police Commander and also shot him.

The separatists after incident took the vehicle and paraded the streets of Sagakope in widely circulated video on social media holding guns, chanting war songs and jubilating.

“We’re free…we’re free forever,” they celebrated their victory.
