The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season kicked off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, November 14, 2020, as Legon Cities hosted Berekum Chelsea in the league opener.
The local league made a return after almost eight months. The 2019/20 edition was suspended and subsequently cancelled because of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
The game was decided by two first-half penalties from Stephen Amankonah and Jonah Attuquaye.
Berekum Chelsea captain, Stephen Amankonah, 20, shot the Bibires into the lead in the 22nd minute, courtesy of a spot-kick, when Kofi Owusu was fouled inside the Legon Cities penalty area.
It was the first goal of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.
Twelve minutes later, Legon Cities drew parity through Jonah Attuquaye’s penalty on his debut for Legon Cities against his former side, Berekum Chelsea.
There were no more goals in the match as game one of the new season ended in a 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Former Aduana Stars midfielder, Elvis Opoku, was adjudged the NASCO man of the match on his Legon Cities debut.
